The chairperson of Jaba Local Government Area in Kaduna State paid a condolence visit to the family of Nurse Mary Habila, who died unexpectedly at the residence of the Minister of Works in Ebonyi State on June 27, 2026. Mary was a staff member of the David Umahi Federal Teaching Hospital and had served as part of the minister’s medical team for over three years. During the visit, Mary’s father, Baba Habila, revealed that his daughter had mentioned experiencing a nosebleed the night before her death. He explained that colleagues discovered her body after she missed breakfast and could not be reached. Security agencies were invited to the scene and her remains were taken to the morgue. Despite calls for an autopsy, Baba Habila said he would not pursue one, insisting that no examination can bring his daughter back to life. He expressed no ill will toward the minister or his family and appealed for her remains to be released promptly so she can be laid to rest according to family customs. The chairperson extended heartfelt condolences and urged the public to avoid speculation.

No wahala, I totally agree: CCTV cameras, regular security patrols and surprise safety audits for official residences.

It's surprising that high-profile residences still lack clear medical support guidelines for visiting staff.

I'm not convinced a single condolence visit changes systemic safety failures at ministerial properties.

Local councils should publish clear emergency response plans and train all staff on medical protocols immediately.
