UK Court Allows Convicted London Stock Exchange Bomber to Stay on Human Rights Grounds
A UK court has ruled that Shah Rahman, jailed in 2012 for plotting to bomb the London Stock Exchange, cannot be deported without breaching his human rights. Although his asylum claim was refused in 2017 due to his terrorism conviction, judges found that returning him to Bangladesh would violate Article 3 of the European Convention on Human Rights. The ruling emerged during a case by Rahman’s wife, Parveen Purbhoo, who was permanently excluded from the UK in 2023 after jihadist-related images were found on her phone. Officials judged her a national security risk and dismissed her appeal.
