Ondo Court Sentences 21-Year-Old Houseboy to Death for Employer’s Murder
Justice Rotimi Olamide of the Ondo State High Court, Akure division, has sentenced Emmanuel Akpan, a 21-year-old houseboy, to death by hanging for murdering his employer, Mrs. Febisola Adedayo. His co-defendant, Goodness James Akpe, was acquitted due to insufficient evidence. Court records show the crime occurred on March 29, 2021, at Ifakanbale Street in Ondo town. According to the prosecution, Akpan inflicted fatal machete wounds on Mrs. Adedayo before setting her home on fire to conceal the act, motivated by the victim’s cash and valuables. The judge found witness testimonies credible and noted that the defendants’ confessions bolstered the case. Akpan’s own explanation to police was described as inconsistent and unconvincing. Justice Olamide called the killing cruel and inhuman, highlighting the victim’s prior kindness to the defendants. He pronounced the mandatory death sentence and prayed for mercy on the soul of the convict.
