Night Raid in Plateau: Nine Family Members, Including Two-Month-Old, Killed
At least nine members of a single family, including a two-month-old infant, were killed in a late-night attack by suspected Fulani militias on Kum community in Riyom Local Government Area, Plateau State. The assault began around 11:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 11 and lasted more than an hour. The village head was critically injured during the raid. A resident said the gunmen stormed the village in large numbers and opened fire indiscriminately. “We could hear screams from every house. They entered homes and slaughtered people,” the witness said. Many residents fled into the bush and only returned the next morning to find the bodies. Another resident described the scene as horrific and lamented the recurring insecurity. “We buried our children with our own hands again. Government must come and help us,” they urged. Local people called on security agencies to strengthen their presence and prevent further bloodshed. The Berom Youths Moulders Association in Riyom District condemned the attack and demanded a thorough investigation. In a statement, they urged federal and state authorities to arrest the perpetrators, ensure justice, and restore peace to vulnerable communities.
