DICAN to Host Global Summit on Disinformation Threats in Abuja

The Diplomatic Correspondents Association of Nigeria (DICAN) will hold its second International Conference on Diplomatic, Security, Trade and Investment on May 20, 2026, at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Abuja. This year’s summit will tackle Foreign Information Manipulation and Interference (FIMI), a growing form of hybrid warfare that threatens international relations and global trade. DICAN Chairman Idehai Frederick said the event aims to promote collaborative truth as a tool for strengthening security and economic stability. “A secure information environment is essential for strong trade and investment,” he noted. “Misinformation can scare away investors and destabilize markets.” The summit will bring together diplomats, intelligence experts, media professionals, and business leaders to develop international frameworks that counter state-sponsored disinformation. Key discussions will cover threat detection, neutralization strategies, and promoting accurate reporting to protect national interests. Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Yusuf Maitama Tuggar, will deliver the keynote address alongside the EU Ambassador to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Gautier Mignot. Regulators, security experts, and private-sector leaders will also participate. The conference builds on DICAN’s successful maiden edition in July 2025, which attracted over 60 diplomatic missions and civil society organisations.
