1 / 2

Argentina legend Oscar Ruggeri has picked Spain, France and England as the biggest challengers to Argentina’s title defence at the 2026 World Cup. Speaking in an interview with BOLA VIP, the 1986 World Cup winner praised the individual quality of each squad but admitted he was unsure about their cohesion. Ruggeri also highlighted Germany as a potential surprise contender capable of breaking into the top four. He believes their trademark resilience could show up later in the tournament. Argentina will enter the 2026 finals as defending champions, after lifting the trophy in 2022. The next World Cup will be jointly hosted by the United States, Mexico and Canada and will feature 48 teams for the first time.

I agree, the firepower and squad depth of Spain, France and England will push Argentina hard in 2026.

Hmm, Spain and France look solid, but England's depth still feels questionable. Still, those three could make Argentina sweat.

While Ruggeri highlights squad quality, he overlooks team cohesion and recent form, which could tip the balance differently in 2026.

I'm not convinced those are the only threats; other emerging national teams could surprise everyone by 2026 World Cup.

Argentina should focus on balanced training camps and friendly matches against top European sides to prepare for those challenges.
