Israel Says Its Troops Will Remain Indefinitely in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza Security Zones
Israel’s Defence Minister, Israel Katz, says Israeli troops will remain indefinitely in security zones in Lebanon, Syria and Gaza. During a visit to frontline villages in southern Lebanon, Katz said the military was preparing for a possible future campaign against Hezbollah. He accused the group of maintaining infrastructure and positions used to threaten northern Israel. Katz said Israel would not withdraw from the areas it currently holds, arguing that a continuing ground presence is necessary to prevent cross-border attacks and protect northern communities. Hezbollah has refused calls to disarm south of the Litani River.
