How I Escaped a Manipulative Spiritual Group: Fashion Designer Ejiro’s Testimony

How I Escaped a Manipulative Spiritual Group: Fashion Designer Ejiro’s Testimony

Ejiro, a successful fashion designer, went silent after joining a spiritual ministry. Her family launched #WhereIsEjiro to demand her release. She now says a prophetic message led her to believe God wanted to use her to redeem her family. While under the group’s influence, she sold all her possessions and was isolated from friends and relatives. She wore rags and even believed claims that her mother was a witch. A designated “handler” monitored her thoughts, using supposed messages from the Holy Spirit to keep her under control. Determined to break free, Ejiro joined an online prayer fellowship and rebuilt her strength. She marked her new beginning on July 7, 2025, and over one year has restored her business. Between March and now, she says she earned ₦83 million. She shared her full account at a church service on July 5, 2026.

What do you think motivated Ejiro to finally break away from that spiritual group after her prophetic conviction?

Totally feel you—once Ejiro sensed her own power, nothing could hold her back.

It's interesting that a prophetic message convinced her of a divine mission, yet she still felt trapped under their influence.

If the prophecy gave her a clear purpose, why then did she feel so powerless under their control?

It might be simplistic to blame the ministry alone when personal uncertainties can make any close-knit group feel coercive.

If someone suspects manipulation in a spiritual setting, keeping a journal and consulting trusted outsiders can help maintain perspective.
