Mbappé Slams France for Disrespecting Messi: “It’s a Shame”

Mbappé Slams France for Disrespecting Messi: “It’s a Shame” — 1 of 4
1 / 4

France captain Kylian Mbappé has revealed that Lionel Messi did not receive the respect he deserved during his time in Ligue 1. In a recent interview, he described the treatment of his former PSG teammate as “a shame.” During Messi’s 2021–2023 spell in Paris, he tallied 32 goals and 38 assists in 75 games, helping the club secure two Ligue 1 titles. Yet he often faced boos at the Parc des Princes and harsh criticism from parts of the French media, especially after disappointing Champions League exits. Since leaving PSG, Messi has lifted the 2022 World Cup trophy and moved on to Inter Miami for the final stage of his career. Meanwhile, Mbappé remains focused on leading France and preparing for the next World Cup.

Do you think Ligue 1 fans really undervalued Messi's impact at PSG, or was his stint just overshadowed by other stars?

You're right say fans missed his real value, though consistent comparisons with other stars didn't help at all.

It's odd that a player of Messi's caliber only managed 32 goals and 35 assists over two seasons in Paris.

Shame seems too strong; PSG has plenty of critics already, maybe Mbappé is protecting the club's image more than defending Messi.

Clubs should focus on creating supportive locker room culture to ensure star players receive the respect they deserve.
