How Linda Cohn Made SportsCenter History: Career Highlights and $12M Net Worth

Linda Cohn has anchored ESPN’s SportsCenter since 1992 and set a record with over 5,500 episodes. Born on November 10, 1959, she turned a childhood passion for ice hockey into a groundbreaking career. She began in local radio in 1981 and became the first full-time female sports anchor on a national U.S. radio network in 1987. She joined ESPN in 1992 and overcame early challenges, including coaching to boost her on-air passion. Cohn expanded her role to WNBA play-by-play, co-hosted morning SportsCenter blocks and launched a podcast. In 2016, she marked her 5,000th show and remained ESPN’s longest-serving anchor until her retirement in 2026. A former ice hockey goaltender at SUNY Oswego and Hall of Fame inductee, Cohn also published a memoir in 2008. Today her estimated net worth stands at $12 million.

Totally! Her love for hockey must've fueled that radio gig and pushed her all the way to SportsCenter.

The timeline from local radio in 1981 to first female sports anchor is impressive, but it doesn't explain the rise to a $12M net worth.

That's fair, but could her side projects and endorsement deals have driven that net worth boost?

Highlighting her $12M net worth risks making it seem like financial gain is more important than breaking gender barriers on national television.

Aspiring broadcasters could learn from Cohn's example by combining niche expertise—like ice hockey knowledge—with consistent on-air experience over decades.
