NDLEA Rearrests Suspect Falsely Declared Dead after Jumping Bail in Edo
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency in Edo state has rearrested Ibrahim Yusuf Lawal. He jumped bail after pleading not guilty to transporting psychotropic drugs at Ugbekun Junction in February 2022. Lawal’s wife filed an affidavit claiming he died of tuberculosis and was buried in Kogi state. Investigations by NDLEA operatives proved he was alive. Acting on intelligence, the agency tracked and re-arrested him during a covert operation. He appeared before the Federal High Court in Benin, and the case has been adjourned to June 22, 2026. NDLEA warned anyone involved in the false death claim could face prosecution.
