Oluremi Tinubu Says 7th–9th Senates Outshined Today’s Rubber-Stamp Assembly
First Lady Oluremi Tinubu described her time in the 7th, 8th and 9th National Assemblies as “really, really good” during an input distribution ceremony in Minna. She hinted that the current 10th Senate falls short of those standards. Political analysts echoed her view, calling today’s upper chamber a “mockery of democracy” for fast-tracking executive requests without proper scrutiny. A governance advocate also warned that rising corruption and insecurity reflect a Senate that can no longer serve as a check on power. Mrs Tinubu then praised Niger State’s emergence as an agricultural hub, noting the flag-off of 250 tractors, 50 harvesters and 150,000 bags of fertiliser under the Renewed Hope Agricultural and Food Security Programme. Niger State Governor Mohammed Bago and the APC national chairman added plans for mini dams and road upgrades to boost irrigation and yields. She accused current leaders of turning the Senate into a “sorry state” of shameless, conscience-less rubber-stamp politics. Both ruling parties, she warned, have allowed criminal behaviour to go unchecked.
