NDLEA Warns: Verify All Foreign Packages to Avoid Drug Conspiracy Charges

NDLEA Warns: Verify All Foreign Packages to Avoid Drug Conspiracy Charges

The NDLEA has cautioned Nigerians against accepting packages from abroad without knowing every item inside. Spokesperson Femi Babafemi explained that some drug traffickers abroad hide illicit substances in consignments and designate unsuspecting friends or family members here as receivers. Babafemi advised anyone asked to receive cargo on another’s behalf to insist on a recorded video call during packaging. He warned that accepting unknown shipments could lead to criminal liability for possession and conspiracy, with possible jail time. In a recent operation, NDLEA officers discovered illegal drugs concealed in imported snack packs. Nigerians are urged to share this warning to protect loved ones from falling victim to such schemes.

Has anyone here ever received a package and wondered if you were unknowingly carrying something illegal? What steps did you take to verify it?

You said verify packages – how exactly do you go about confirming what's inside without breaking the seal?

This advice feels excessive. Who get time to verify every international parcel, na impossible task.

It's interesting NDLEA assumes every foreign consignment hides drugs, which suggests serious distrust in international shipping procedures by security agencies.

I get the concern, but not everyone imports packages with shady intentions. This warning might unfairly target innocent people who simply help family overseas.

Before accepting any parcel, make a habit of asking senders for a full item list and inspecting the contents yourself if possible.
