NBA Seal Discrepancy Sparks Forgery Claims Over NDC–APM Resignation Letter

NBA Seal Discrepancy Sparks Forgery Claims Over NDC–APM Resignation Letter — 1 of 4
1 / 4

A new controversy has emerged over a resignation letter the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) says shows its National Legal Adviser left the All Progressives Movement (APM) last year. The NDC blames an administrative lapse by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and insists there’s no conflict of membership. Lawyer Egi Nupe has challenged the letter’s authenticity. He points out that the document, dated December 5, 2025, bears a Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) seal expiring in March 2027. NBA seals are issued yearly, making a 2027 seal unavailable until early 2026. The discrepancy has fueled debate about possible backdating or improper seal use. Observers warn that if proven, a forged letter could trigger professional misconduct proceedings for the lawyer involved. Calls are growing for the NBA and INEC to review the matter and clarify the record.

The term forgery might be premature here; perhaps a simple clerical mistake explains the conflicting signatures.

Citizens should petition for a transparent audit of all related INEC documents to restore trust and clarity.
