LASEMA Records Zero Fatalities After Responding to 18 Emergencies in One Week
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency deployed its Cobra, Eagle, Sharks and Lagos Response Team units to tackle 18 high-risk incidents between June 14 and June 21. These included road crashes, fires, tanker emergencies, container truck mishaps and infrastructure failures across Obanikoro, Maryland, Okota, Mushin, Marina, Ikeja Underbridge and the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway. Seventeen of the incidents ended without loss of life. A container accident at Maryland Roundabout on June 18 trapped one person, who was rescued alive, stabilised by paramedics and taken to Gbagada Orthopaedic Hospital for treatment. LASEMA worked alongside the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, the Nigeria Police Force, FRSC, the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, NEMA and community stakeholders. Heavy-duty equipment was used to clear obstructions and restore traffic flow on major routes. The agency praised years of investment in training and equipment under the THEMES+ Agenda. Residents are urged to report emergencies via toll-free lines and to maintain their vehicles and obey traffic regulations.
