Ooni Gives ₦100m and Hilux to Sunday Igboho’s Iru Ekun Security Network
The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has donated ₦100 million and a new Hilux vehicle to the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community security outfit founded by Yoruba Nation advocate Sunday Igboho. The donation was announced during a visit by Igboho and members of the group to the Ooni’s palace in Ile-Ife. The monarch said the outfit could complement existing efforts to protect lives and property across Yoruba communities. He urged Yoruba leaders, traditional rulers, professionals and businesspeople to support initiatives that promote peace, unity and community safety. Igboho thanked the Ooni for the support and royal backing. The development has also raised questions about how the outfit will be viewed nationally, especially given the detention of other separatist figures and the wider debate over ethnic security groups in Nigeria.
