Edo Elevates Agriculture School to College of Agriculture, Science and Technology

Edo Elevates Agriculture School to College of Agriculture, Science and Technology

Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo has signed a law renaming the Edo State School of Agriculture to the Edo State College of Agriculture, Science and Technology. The new name reflects a shift towards science and technology-driven farming, aligning training with global standards. The bill, presented by the Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly, aims to equip students with practical, innovative agricultural skills. The college will now operate across three specialised campuses: Agricultural Technology at Iguoriakhi, Forestry at Uromi, and Aquaculture at Agenebode. Governor Okpebholo described the change as a “new dawn” for the institution. He said the upgrade will boost food production, support the state’s goal of meeting local consumption needs, and generate jobs in livestock production and farm technology.

To ensure success, the college should partner with tech startups, update its labs, and offer hands-on field workshops.
