Bus Plunges into Ebonyi River, Killing Infant and Four Others
At least five people, including a seven-month-old baby, died after a fully loaded Toyota Hummer bus veered off a narrow bridge on the Enugu-Abakaliki Highway. The crash happened Friday morning near Nkalagu Junction in Ebonyi State when the driver tried to avoid a dangerous overtaking manoeuvre. The vehicle plunged into the river below. The baby’s mother survived and remains in critical care alongside several other injured traders. Responders warned that the bridge’s damaged structure may have worsened the accident. Officials from the Federal Road Safety Corps are investigating the cause and urging motorists to drive carefully on single-lane stretches.
