Public Alert: Inmate Escapes During Prison Van Crash in Yobe

On April 13, 2026, a vehicle transporting inmates from the Medium Security Custodial Centre in Potiskum to Damaturu was involved in a road accident. During rescue efforts, a 30-year-old convict managed to flee the scene. The escapee has been identified as Dahiru Mohammed (Prison Number J/1539/24), admitted on November 29, 2024. The Nigerian Correctional Service warns that he is dangerous and should not be approached. Anyone with information on his whereabouts is urged to report immediately to the nearest police station or correctional facility. Harbouring a fugitive is a criminal offence punishable by law.
