FG Creates Paramedic Assistant and Technician Cadres in Public Service

The National Council on Establishments has approved two new paramedical cadres for Nigeria’s public service: Paramedic Assistant, on Salary Grade Levels 04 to 07, and Paramedic Technician, on Grade Levels 06 to 14. The decision was reached at the council’s 48th meeting in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, held from 20 to 24 July 2026. The meeting also adopted a harmonised entry-point framework for public service cadres. The new roles are expected to provide clearer recruitment routes, career progression and remuneration structures for paramedical personnel. The council said requests for five other new cadres were deferred pending the outcome of an ongoing personnel audit and skills-gap analysis across the public service. The approval supports efforts to strengthen Nigeria’s emergency and frontline healthcare workforce, particularly as federal and state institutions begin implementing the new cadres.
