Lagos Police Bust ‘Witches of China’ Ring Accusing Two Women of Extorting Online Sellers
Two women have been arrested by the Lagos State Police for allegedly blackmailing online business owners and deactivating their social media pages when ransoms were not paid. The suspects, identified as 22-year-old Shallon Daniels and 27-year-old Peace Ijeoma, are said to be members of a group called “Witches of China.” Victims told the Special Crime Investigation Department that the group circulated defamatory posts and then mass-reported pages until they were taken down. Business operators reported fear, emotional distress, reputational damage and financial losses to the police. After a discreet investigation, officers detained the two suspects and are urging other victims to come forward with statements. The police spokesperson confirmed the arrests and noted that charges would be filed once investigations conclude.
