The Olumo Rock Tourist Centre in Ikija, Abeokuta, has seen its monthly income jump from around ₦250,000 to about ₦40 million since its recent refurbishment. This 137-metre granite outcrop served as a natural fortress for the Egba people during 19th-century tribal wars and reopened to visitors on 31 July 2025 with free entry until 30 September 2025. Governor Dapo Abiodun announced the surge on 16 April 2026 while commissioning the new 5.5-kilometre Elega–Miliki–Saje–Bode-Olude–Alhaji Sugar Road. “After the refurbishment, Olumo Rock began to generate about ₦40 million a month compared to under ₦3 million a year previously,” he said. The governor added that Olumo Rock now ranks among Nigeria’s top tourist attractions, underlining how targeted investment can transform local cultural sites.

The historical importance of that 137-metre granite outcrop must add real appeal, blending cultural heritage with nicer facilities after the renovation.

I wonder if such high fees might exclude local visitors who can't afford it, turning a beloved landmark into something less accessible.

Tour operators could bundle guided history tours with the ticket price to educate visitors and justify premium pricing, boosting satisfaction and revenue.
