Seven Arraigned for Alleged Attack on LAWMA Officials During Lagos Waste Enforcement
Seven individuals appeared before the Special Offences (Mobile) Court in Ikeja for allegedly assaulting LAWMA enforcement officers on March 8, 2026. They were arrested at the Moshalashi Jimoh axis of Lagos Island during a routine waste disposal monitoring exercise. The Lagos State Attorney General filed a five-count charge against them. Counts include breach of peace, illegal dumping, failure to engage an approved waste operator, obstruction of officers and assault on public officials. At arraignment on March 10, all seven pleaded not guilty. Each defendant was granted bail of ₦200,000 with two sureties: one recognised community leader and one employed relative. The trial is set to begin on April 24, 2026. LAWMA warned that any obstruction or assault of its officers is a serious offence under state environmental laws. The agency reaffirmed its commitment to stricter enforcement and proper waste disposal across Lagos.
