No fewer than 45 pupils are missing after gunmen attacked Baptist Nursery and Primary School in Yawota, Community Grammar School in Esiele and L.A. Primary School in Oriire Local Government Area of Oyo State last Friday. Eyewitnesses report that masked assailants on motorcycles opened fire around 8am, moving from classroom to classroom. A teacher said the gunmen spoke Yoruba, Hausa and Pidgin English as they led children and some staff into nearby forests. Traditional rulers confirm that many pupils and two teachers remain unaccounted for. Residents say some victims were forced onto motorcycles while others were marched on foot towards Old Oyo National Park. Security agencies and local vigilante groups have launched coordinated operations in the forest reserves.
