CCTV Captures Eight Students Allegedly Starting Deadly Fire at Utumishi Girls Academy Dorm
Recent CCTV footage recorded moments before a devastating fire at Utumishi Girls Academy in Gilgil, Kenya, is now central to an arson investigation. The video shows five students quietly entering the dormitory around 12:10 a.m. before two allegedly ignited the first blaze near the main entrance. Investigators believe kerosene was smeared around the exit to block escape routes. Within minutes, flames spread rapidly as the suspects moved to a mattress storage area and set a second fire. By 12:13 a.m., panic erupted as thick smoke and growing flames engulfed large sections of the building. Terrified students scrambled for safety as the inferno turned sleeping quarters into a deadly trap. Sixteen students lost their lives and dozens more were injured in the early morning blaze. Eight students have been arrested after forensic analysis at the National Police Service Laboratory positively identified them. Detectives continue probing motives behind the alleged arson.
