INEC is set to conduct off-cycle elections today. These include the Ekiti Governorship election and bye-elections in Enugu North, Nasarawa North, Ondo South, Rivers South East, Dawaki Kudu Federal Constituency in Kano and Zuru Constituency in Kebbi. INEC’s deputy director for publicity, Wilfred Ifogah, said officials and ad hoc staff have been trained on emergency response, material security and strict adherence to guidelines. Security agencies will guard polling units and move materials under supervision. Voting opens at 8:30am after polling officials arrive by 7:30am. Ahead of the polls, 1,028,929 voters in Ekiti have collected their PVCs, representing 97.1% of the register. This surpasses the 97.0% collection rate in 2023. PVC replacements have also been printed and distributed. INEC thanked traditional rulers, civil society and media for supporting voter mobilisation. It urged all registered voters to collect their cards and participate peacefully. Similar preparations are in place for the 2027 general election.
