Months After Tinubu’s Visit, Lagos–São Paulo Flight Plan Stalls

Months After Tinubu’s Visit, Lagos–São Paulo Flight Plan Stalls

Months after President Tinubu’s August 2025 visit to Brazil, the direct Lagos–São Paulo service remains grounded. Nigerians in Brazil had hoped the new Air Peace route would cut travel time and costs. During the trip, both countries signed a Bilateral Air Service Agreement and other MoUs covering aviation, agriculture, trade and energy. Yet community leaders say no progress has been made on any of the promised initiatives. Residents in São Paulo are calling on the Federal Government to explain the delay. They warn that more than just a flight is at stake when key agreements go unfulfilled. Other major deals, including a billion-dollar agricultural cooperation plan, also await implementation. Many now question the commitment to turning signed papers into real projects.

Perhaps everyone's assuming government red tape is solely to blame, but airlines also need to sort operational approvals and funding gaps.

Air Peace should publish a clear implementation timeline and engage local regulators early to keep expectations realistic and momentum alive.
