Dimeji Lawal Backs Eric Chelle: “Give Him Time to Turn Things Around”

Dimeji Lawal Backs Eric Chelle: “Give Him Time to Turn Things Around” — 1 of 2
1 / 2

Former Super Eagles winger Dimeji Lawal has urged the Nigeria Football Federation to keep faith with head coach Eric Chelle despite the team’s failure to qualify for the 2026 World Cup. He says stability is crucial for Nigeria’s revival in African and global football. Lawal argues that quick coaching changes do more harm than good. He believes giving Chelle more time will allow the Franco-Malian tactician to fully implement his strategy and build a united squad. “If the NFF stays with Eric Chelle, things will soon turn around,” he said. The ex-player stressed that constructing a championship-winning team demands patience and long-term planning. “You don’t build a great team in a short period. It takes time and patience,” Lawal added.

The NFF could set clear performance milestones for Chelle over the next year, then review progress before deciding on his future.
