Lavrov to Meet US Senator Marco Rubio in Manila on 23 July over Ukraine Talks

Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov will meet US Senator Marco Rubio on the morning of 23 July in Manila. They plan to discuss the war in Ukraine and Washington’s proposals from the Anchorage talks. Lavrov told reporters in Manila that he expects US proposals from Anchorage to still be on the table. He also said he will ask Rubio about former President Trump’s prediction on a settlement in Ukraine. Both officials are in Manila for ASEAN events. Rubio previously denied any secret deals were made at last year’s Anchorage summit. Lavrov has accused Washington of abandoning impartial mediation in the conflict.

Observers should track any joint statements or follow-up actions after the Manila meeting to gauge whether talks yield real progress.
