Comrade Iche Demands Urgent NYSC Policy Overhaul
Human rights advocate Comrade Prince Saviour Iche argues that the NYSC scheme no longer meets its founding goals. He says it should be thoroughly reviewed or suspended until reforms are in place. He recalls that NYSC began in 1973 to foster unity, self-reliance and economic growth. But corpers now face insecurity, poor job placements, forced social practices and inadequate allowances. Iche urges the government to match postings with graduates’ fields, enforce proper supervision of private employers and protect corpers in camp and in service. He also calls for fair pay and a one-time post-graduation settlement in lieu of the current scheme.
