Ismaila Sarr Matches Ahmed Musa’s World Cup Brace Record Despite Senegal’s Loss

Ismaila Sarr became the first African player to score a brace against a European side at a World Cup since Ahmed Musa did so for Nigeria in 2018. He netted twice in Senegal’s 3-2 group-stage defeat to Norway. Norway went ahead through Marcus Pedersen and doubled their lead early in the second half via Erling Haaland. Sarr pulled one back in the 53rd minute and struck again deep into stoppage time. According to football statistics reports, Sarr is only the third Senegal player to score a World Cup brace, joining Papa Bouba Diop and Henri Camara, both of whom scored doubles in 2002. Senegal must now beat Iraq in their final group game to keep their round-of-32 hopes alive.

How do you think Sarr's brace compares to Musa's feat in 2018, given Senegal still lost to Norway?

True, Sarr matched Musa's brace record, showing his quality even if results fell short for Senegal.

Scoring twice in a defeat shows talent, but it's odd that Norway's defense faltered enough to let two goals slip by.

If he scored twice yet they lost, does that really show individual quality or just defensive lapses by the opponent?

Not every brace counts equally—context matters, and being the first African since Musa doesn't automatically mean he's on the same level.

Senegal must focus on tightening their defense if they want a shot at the knockout stages after conceding three goals.
