Stuck on Hold: Nigerians Demand Better Mobile Network Service
Across Nigeria, mobile network frustrations have become the norm. Dropped calls, slow internet speeds and failed connections are disrupting everyday life. Whether you are running a business, attending an online class or contacting loved ones, unreliable coverage makes simple tasks stressful. Major operators MTN, Airtel, Glo and 9mobile are facing widespread criticism. Poor signals mean calls break mid-conversation. Data subscriptions deliver painfully slow speeds — videos buffer for minutes and emails stall. All this despite rising prices and no guarantee of fair value. Telecoms cite infrastructure gaps, power challenges and security risks for disruptions. Yet with millions of subscribers and soaring revenues, operators must invest more in base stations, fibre networks and timely maintenance. Transparency on outages and clear communication can also ease customer frustration. The regulator must enforce service standards and impose penalties for substandard performance. Healthy competition should push operators to improve quality and match pricing with actual service. Nigerian consumers deserve no less than reliable calls, fast internet and fair value for money.
