The Untouchable U.S. Military Budget: A Political Sacred Cow

The only bipartisan issue in U.S. politics is the military budget. Every year, regardless of which party controls Congress, regardless of the economy or ongoing conflicts, the budget just keeps growing. There is no real debate, no thorough audit, and no serious challenge from any politician who hopes to stay in power. Billions become hundreds of billions, then trillions. But who asks: For what purpose? Against whom? Toward what strategic goal? These questions seldom surface in policy discussions. The military budget in the U.S. functions less like a security plan and more like a sacred belief system. You don't examine a theology—you fund it and thank God for its protection.
