Terrorists Kidnap 42 Schoolchildren in Borno After ISWAP Commander’s Death
Over the weekend, suspected Boko Haram and ISWAP fighters attacked Primary and Junior Government Day Secondary School in Mussa, Askira-Uba LGA, Borno State, and abducted 42 children. The victims include four secondary students, 28 primary pupils, and 10 youngsters taken from nearby homes. This raid came hours after Nigerian and US forces announced the killing of Islamic State commander Abu-Bilal al-Minuki near Lake Chad. Military sources say the operation began at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday and wrapped up around 4 a.m. with coordinated air and ground assaults on insurgent camps in Metele. Senator Ali Ndume condemned the attack as “barbaric, traumatic and heartbreaking” and urged the Joint Task Force and other security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the children. The abduction has reignited painful memories of the 2014 Chibok schoolgirls kidnapping and underscores the vulnerability of schools in remote border areas.
