Police Foil Cult Attack at Port Harcourt Market

Police Foil Cult Attack at Port Harcourt Market

On Monday morning, operatives of the Nkpolu Divisional Police Headquarters in Mile 3, Diobu, Port Harcourt responded swiftly to distress calls and disrupted a suspected cult attack at Bishop Okoye Street Market. At about 7:30 a.m., eight men armed with machetes and a locally made pistol chased a grinding business owner identified as Abraham. They pinned him to the ground and slashed his ear and other parts before officers led by CSP Ogbuefi Henry King arrived on the scene. The assailants fled into the crowd upon spotting the police. The attack may be linked to Abraham’s reported refusal to pay an illegal levy known locally as “matching ground.” The state police command says detectives have secured the area and are pursuing leads to arrest the suspects. Residents are urged to share any information that could aid the investigation.
