Bandits Demand Additional ₦300m as Niger State Electoral Commissioner Remains Kidnapped for Ninth Month

Bandits Demand Additional ₦300m as Niger State Electoral Commissioner Remains Kidnapped for Ninth Month

Barrister Ahmed Mohammed, Permanent Commissioner of the Niger State Independent Electoral Commission, has been held by bandits since September 29, 2025. His family paid ₦40 million but he remains in captivity. He was abducted along the Mokwa-Ibbi Road in Borgu Local Government Area just weeks before the state’s local government elections. On June 29, 2026, the kidnappers renewed their demand, insisting on an extra ₦300 million before they will release him. Relatives warn that Barr. Ahmed’s health is deteriorating. They are appealing to the Niger State Government and all security agencies for urgent intervention to secure his safe and immediate release.

We fit report suspicious activities along Mokwa-Ibbi Road and organise community patrols to deter further kidnappings.
