Anambra Police Officer Detained After Slap Misses Target and Kills 3-Month-Old
The Anambra State Police Command has detained an officer in connection with the death of a three-month-old baby in Okija, Ihiala Local Government Area. A landlord had invited the police officer to intervene in a dispute with his tenant. The tenant was not at home and, while attempting to slap a relative, the officer allegedly missed and struck the infant instead, leading to the baby’s death. A police spokesperson confirmed that a full-scale investigation is underway. The officer involved is under interrogation and subject to administrative disciplinary procedures in line with Nigeria Police Force regulations. The command expressed deep regret over the tragedy, offered condolences to the family and urged residents to remain calm. Authorities have assured the public that anyone found culpable will be held to account.
