Eastern Union Rejects ‘Wasted Votes’ Label, Defends Igbo Voter Impact
The Eastern Union has condemned calls to dismiss Igbo votes as “wasted,” calling them political blackmail aimed at misleading the public. In a statement by National President Hon. Charles Anike C., the group accused some politicians of using divisive rhetoric instead of offering real solutions. It stressed that every vote reflects people’s convictions and the freedom to choose. The Union warned against reducing votes to “waste” simply because a preferred candidate lost. It argued that such narratives undermine democracy and insult the political awareness of Ndigbo. Looking ahead to the 2027 elections, the Eastern Union pledged that Igbo voters will continue to decide freely, rejecting propaganda, inducement, or coercion.
