Amnesty International Vows Global Campaign Over Alleged Violent Remarks by Osun Senator Fadahunsi
Amnesty International Nigeria says it will draw international attention to alleged violent remarks by Senator Francis Fadahunsi ahead of the Osun governorship election. The organisation’s country director, Isa Sanusi, said Amnesty would highlight the case across countries where it operates, arguing that politicians must be held accountable for rhetoric that could encourage election-related violence. Fadahunsi, the APC senator representing Osun East, was criticised after a video circulated in which he was alleged to have urged supporters to kill members of the Accord party. The Osun State Police Command reportedly questioned him for about two hours after summoning him over the matter. Amnesty said it intends to use the case to challenge political impunity and deter inflammatory statements during elections.
