Ilorin Court Grants Divorce Citing Husband’s Financial Struggles

An Area Court in Centre-Igboro, Ilorin, dissolved the Islamic marriage between Toyin Ajibola and his wife, Bashirat Mohammed. The judge ruled in favour of Bashirat, who had petitioned for divorce over her husband’s persistent financial hardship and irresponsibility. Custody of their three children was awarded to Bashirat. The court also ordered her to observe the three-month iddah period before remarrying. Toyin was directed to cover the children’s feeding costs and given unrestricted visitation rights. Bashirat told the court she was exhausted by the lack of money and needed rest of mind. Toyin, while admitting his financial limitations, said he still loved his family and was doing his best to provide.
