Rivers RIRS to Introduce QR Verification for Tax Notices, Tackle Multiple Taxation

The Rivers State Internal Revenue Service says it is introducing measures to curb multiple taxation and fraudulent tax collection across the state. During a meeting with leaders of the Ndigbo Community in Rivers State, RIRS Chairman Israel Egbunefu said official tax demand notices will soon carry QR codes, allowing taxpayers to verify them before making payments. He urged business owners to report suspected fake revenue agents. The agency also said it is working with local government councils to harmonise revenue collection and reduce overlapping demands. Eligible informal-sector taxpayers will be registered in the state tax database and required to obtain Tax Identification Numbers.
