Mob Lynch Two Men, Burn 10 Fulani Homes in Ilesha-Baruba After Cleric’s Death
On May 30, 2026 in Ilesha-Baruba, Baruten LGA, a confrontation between an unidentified Fulani man and respected Islamic scholar Alhaji Mohammed Ilyasu left both seriously injured. They were rushed to hospital, where the scholar was declared dead on arrival and the assailant later died under treatment. Following the clash, angry youths stormed the hospital, seized the suspect’s corpse, and set it ablaze. They also attacked a passerby and burnt him alive before moving on to destroy property. The mob then razed ten buildings belonging to members of the local Fulani community, including the home of the Ardo Fulani. No official investigation had begun before the reprisal attacks. Security forces were promptly deployed to restore order. The state’s Commissioner of Police condemned the extra-judicial killings and arson. He warned that everyone involved would be tracked down, arrested, and made to face the full weight of the law.
