Troops Secure Plateau: Terrorists Neutralized, Arms Cache Recovered
Troops under Operation Enduring Peace have achieved major victories in Plateau State, neutralizing high-profile terrorists and seizing illegal arms between late June and early July 2026. Sector 6 forces launched a targeted assault on insurgent positions at Gero Highground in Jos South, forcing militants to retreat despite attempts to use livestock as shields and dismantling their enclaves in follow-up operations. At a checkpoint in Maijanki, Sector 5 troops intercepted a motorcycle carrying two suspicious passengers. The riders fled, abandoning a bag that held three locally fabricated rifles. The motorcycle rider was detained for questioning. Further intelligence-led raids around Rafin Bauna and Gero mountain ranges disrupted planned attacks by neutralizing five more terrorists. On July 1, sentries at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies in Kuru repelled a nighttime breach, neutralizing one attacker. Capt. Chinonso Oteh confirmed recovered weapons are now in military custody as part of a broader strategy to restore lasting stability across the state.
