Isaac Balami Says Tinubu Addressed Concerns That Made Him Leave APC

Isaac Balami, a former deputy campaign manager for the Obi-Datti presidential campaign, says President Bola Tinubu has changed his view on issues that led him to leave the APC in 2022. Balami said he joined the Labour Party over concerns about the Muslim-Muslim ticket, insecurity affecting Christians and the marginalisation of minority groups. He returned to the APC in July 2024, citing the Labour Party’s leadership crisis and what he saw as a lack of political direction. Speaking on Arise News, Balami said the Tinubu administration had made progress in recognising minority communities in Northern Nigeria. He pointed to local government autonomy, forest guard recruitment and greater inclusion of previously marginalised groups. He rejected claims that he betrayed the Obidient movement, arguing that his earlier exit from the APC was voluntary and that he should be free to return without criticism. He also insisted that his decision was not driven by personal gain.
