Political Dynasty at Work: Abdulsalami’s Son Wins APC House Seat Ticket in Niger
Adamu Abubakar, son of former Head of State Abdulsalami Abubakar, polled 30,650 votes to win the APC primary for Chanchaga Federal Constituency. His closest rivals, Nmaa Ahmed and Shuaibu Mairago, trailed with 1,271 and 311 votes respectively in an election across 11 wards. In Lapai Federal Constituency, Abdullahi Mahmud secured 8,559 votes to become the party’s candidate. Sadiqu Mustapha and Mahawiya Yusuf followed with 395 and 247 votes from 10 wards. Prof. Yakubu Auna also emerged victorious in the primary for Magama/Rijau Federal Constituency. Even the son of former President Buhari has clinched a nomination in his ward. As many young Nigerians resort to gambling and cybercrime, political elites continue to position their own children for power – a trend that could leave ordinary Nigerians’ offspring facing an even tougher future.
