Marcus Camby built a 17-year NBA career on elite shot-blocking and lockdown defense. He won Defensive Player of the Year in 2007 and finished 12th on the league’s all-time blocks list. Born in Hartford in 1974, Camby starred at Conard and Hartford Public High Schools before leading UMass to the 1996 Final Four. He swept college’s top honors, including the John R. Wooden and Naismith Awards, then entered the NBA as a high-flying center. Camby played for five franchises, most notably the Denver Nuggets, where his rim protection and rebounding earned four All-Defensive nods.
