Cross River Police Charge 412 Cases, Arrest 1,390 Suspects in 12 Months
The Cross River State Police Command recorded 1,142 cases between January and December 2025, leading to 1,390 arrests and 412 prosecutions in court. Only 31 convictions were secured, while many cases remain pending. Theft and stealing topped the crimes with 444 cases and 493 arrests. Of these, 175 were charged, yielding 24 convictions. Offences against persons followed with 156 incidents and 230 arrests; 36 cases went to court and seven were closed. Serious crimes included 63 murder cases (92 arrests, 34 prosecutions), 61 rape cases (96 arrests, two convictions), and 62 fraud-related offences (67 arrests, 22 prosecutions). Kidnapping was least frequent, with two recorded incidents. These figures highlight the scale of crime in the state and the pressure on the justice system as many cases await resolution.
