My Puppy Saved My Life After I Lost My Uncle

My Puppy Saved My Life After I Lost My Uncle — 1 of 4
1 / 4

I adopted Duke in 2023, just after my uncle’s sudden death. The guilt of not visiting him ate me up, and I sank into anger and deep depression. Duke arrived sick and terrified. I panicked when he started throwing up, but I’d already committed to caring for him. Days later, at my lowest, I locked myself away and decided I didn’t want to live. Duke refused to eat—he barked and scratched nonstop until neighbours came to check. That moment changed me. Caring for Duke lifted my mood, taught me patience, and reminded me that pets are family. He’s more than a companion—he’s my lifeline.

It's interesting you felt guilt for not visiting your uncle, yet a puppy became your emotional anchor instead of friends or family.

I get that Duke helped you, but isn't it risky to rely solely on a pet for coping with grief?

Consider adding a routine like daily walks or basic training with Duke to strengthen your bond and support your mental health each day.
