Rep Agbese Warns Against Replacing Service Chiefs, Calls for Nigeria to Review ICC Membership

Rep. Philip Agbese has warned that frequent changes of Nigeria’s service chiefs can disrupt military operations and give terrorists and other criminal groups time to reorganise. The Benue lawmaker said new commanders often need time to settle in and introduce their strategies. He urged Nigerians to support the Armed Forces while holding the government accountable for security. Agbese also called for stronger intelligence collaboration and urged citizens to verify security-related claims before sharing them. He said the military had rescued more than 1,000 people from captivity this year. He further argued that Nigeria should review its membership of the International Criminal Court, saying the country’s courts can handle allegations of human-rights abuses and that international commitments should not hinder counter-terrorism operations.
