IGP Deploys DIG to Kaduna After Fatal Ariko Village Attack; Seven Hostages Rescued
The Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Rilwan Disu, has ordered the immediate deployment of Deputy Inspector-General Shehu Umar Nadada to Kaduna State. This follows a deadly bandit attack on worshippers at ECWA and Catholic churches in Ariko Village near Gurara Dam. Five people were killed and at least fourteen were abducted during the coordinated assault on April 5, 2026. The police high command tasked DIG Nadada with on-the-ground coordination to stabilise the area and recover the victims. Working with the Nigerian Army and the DSS, security forces have rescued seven hostages. They were taken to Katari Hospital and are now in stable condition, awaiting reunification with their families. Authorities say operations continue to free the remaining captives and apprehend those responsible. The IGP urged residents to stay vigilant and share credible intelligence with security agencies.
